Dark Winter Is Near by Virginia Derbyshire
Posted on December 1, 2023.
- I walk the bare fields, the earth scarcely thawed. The green leaves have fallen, they're now stiff and sere. I here a far sound: a lone crow has called. One seems so alone, at the end of the year. Yet there's some warmth, be it ever so week. And one can find friends, though summer has passed. The Michaelmas daisy, now low and meek. The little grasshopper, his days closing fast. But time pauses briefly, then rushes on. The sun shines so feebly; dark winter is near. The world lies asleep, all life has withdrawn; One seems so alone, at the end of the year.
