Feb. 2019 Hymn “Please Forgive Me” by Gerald Crabb
I was listening to gospel videos the other night while I was working in the computer when I heard someone giving a testimony about how he came to write the song they where about to sing. It was Gerald Crabb of the Crabb Family, a popular southern gospel group. I',d like to share his story with you. The video is from the early 2000's. He began “About ten years ago the Lord reached down in the gutter to pick up an old drunk, sobered him up, changed his life and gave him a new future. I know that fella pretty good because I was that man.” He continued, “I went to AA meetings time after time and I was going to prove to God that I didn't need his help, I was going to do this all on my own but it only got worst. My children and my family shed many tears over my condition. I tried many times to break the chains that Satan had around me. I was bitter, full of hatred, couldn't cry and didn't want to be around church people” He continued his story. “I was running a car wash in Beaver Dam, Kentucky, about to lose my business because I couldn't stay sober. On that day it was raining, I didn't have anything to drink and no money to buy it with. I was siting there thinking what a horrible person I was, what a failure I've been to my family. How I let everyone down. As I was sitting there I heard a voice of someone I didn't expect to show up. It was the sweetest voice I ever heard and I'll never forget it as long as I ever live. I heard the Lord say to me 'I love you'. Tears started falling down my face and I said Lord I love you to” He continued “Some say the Lord doesn't speak to people anymore, but that day He spoke to me and told me he loved me. I fell to my knees on that muddy floor and started to pray , Lord would you please forgive me and if you forgive me and give me some peace in my heart I'll live for you the rest of my life. Immediately the chains came off, the prison doors where opened, and Gerald Crabb became a new man.” He wrote a song as a testimony, he wrote down the words of the first verse, he said he's been there many times , and put them in his brief case. He didn't even have a tune for it. Six months later he got the song out and finished it. His family heard it and his oldest son Jason said “I want to record that song”. His children Jason, Kelly and Tara recorded it and it became the number one song of 1998. "The Lord our God is merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against him;" Daniel 9:9 "Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord," Acts 3:19 Verse One Please Forgive Me
My sleep is gone, my heart is full of sorrow
I can't believe how much I've let you down
I dread the pain that waits for me tomorrow
When the sun reveals my broken dreams scattered on the ground
