• Somehow, we have arrived at the month of May.  The year is moving right along, isn’t it?  Usually, when we get to this point, we think of that old rhyme, “April showers bring May flowers.”  However, with the climate changes, this year we have been given a preview of May’s flowers, thanks to the unusual warmth of April.  No matter, the warmth was appreciated after the long winter, even if the winter was a bit warmer than normal and almost snowless.

One of the things that keeps us, including, or perhaps especially, meteorologists, humble is the unpredictability of the weather.  In an era when scientists and engineers have managed to make awesome strides in so many areas of knowledge, it kind of deals a blow to our self-esteem when we find that God can still bring us to our knees with a snowstorm or totally inconvenience us with a drenching thunderstorm, or even just cause us to seek shelter on a hot, humid day.  

We tend to lose track of the power of God in this world as we contemplate some new medical procedure or fascinating new electronic gadget.  We fail to think that God has created the materials that allow almost miraculous cures to be developed; or that God has set in place physical laws that permit amazing ways to communicate or great structures to be erected.  Indeed, getting down to basics, it is tempting to think that we can “do it ourselves” and don’t really need a God in our lives.  How humbling when an inconvenience or a crisis arises over which we have no control.

Almost everyone has, or will, at some point, come to the moment when God, the Creator and Sustainer of all life, must be acknowledged.  The joyous moment is when we can put our whole trust in Him as we pray and sing His praises as we worship.
